Lauren is an American journalist based in New York. She covers green travel and outdoor adventure for outlets such as National Geographic Travel, Parents Magazine, Thrillist, Bicycling, Men’s Journal and Travel + Leisure.
She has filmed several on-air travel segments with NBC’s Today in NY Show, and can be found hosting travel panels at events like the New York Travel Festival and The New York Times Travel Show.
Lauren’s writing has appeared in various online and print publications, including Los Angeles Magazine, Outside, Food & Wine, Budget Travel, InStyle.com, NBC.com, PeterGreenberg.com, Grist.org, BizBash Magazine, Yahoo!, BikeNYC.org, Edible East End and Hotel Chic.
In 2007, Lauren co-founded offMetro.com, a green travel site covering car-free getaways from New York, San Francisco and around the world. oM has been featured in various places, including The New York Times, Cosmopolitan, Outside, Gotham Magazine and TreeHugger. Lonely Planet USA called offMetro one of the “top 10 most reliable websites in responsible travel.” Condé Nast Traveler’s Eimear Lynch, said, “Planning a quick, cheap day or weekend away is surprisingly difficult—which is why offMetro is a great idea!”
Lauren was born in Manhattan, raised in Los Angeles, and has lived in Paris, Rome, and London. Her grandfather Mel Matison, a short story author and Esquire contributor, posthumously passed on his appetite for writing, for which she is grateful.
